The base curriculum is Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.). The focus is mastery learning with each child advancing in the subject material at his/her own level of comprehension. The child who learns quickly doesn't suffer from boredom because of having to wait for the slower child and the child who learns more slowly isn't left behind. All instruction in reading is based upon the phonics method.
The proper level of curriculum is found by a diagnostic test given at the beginning of the school year. By doing this, the staff is able to determine "gaps" in learning so that students may be prescribed appropriate work to obtain greatest achievement in their schoolwork. Before a child is placed on his/her own level (comparable to a grade in the public school system), he/she must finish all gap PACEs.
As the child works at his/her own rate to complete a PACE, he/she scores the material completed in each section of the booklet using a scoring key. This helps the child to see and correct any errors he/she has made and learn only the correct answers. It also helps teach the student responsibility. The parent/teacher supervises all work assignments and testing and offers the student the individual teaching and training that can only be accomplished in the home.
As the child finishes a PACE, he/she will need to pass the PACE test with the following percentages:
- 4th grade and up must score 80% in all subjects.
- 1st-3rd grades or PACES Nos. 1001-1036: 90% in all Paces
The "Core Curriculum" consists of the five major areas of academic concern:
- Mathematics
- Social Studies
- English
- Science
- Word Building (Spelling)
Each child is prescribed in each of these areas. There are additional courses available to challenge higher achieving students. |
